Haute Hardware, Bimi Designs By Bianca Bovell – Flair – Jamaica Gleaner – Monday | May 5, 2014

Stacking bangles. Fidge Fletcher Style Contributor In a Jamaica where there is “famine of beauty” in the jewellery and homeware industry, it is rare to find a diamond in the rough like Bianca Michelle Bovell who understands what it takes to push the boundaries of holding her own creativity in both markets. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Bovell, a graduate of the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, has entered Jamaica’s design scene with her very own line, Designs BiMi . The Designs BiMi collection includes homeware and jewellery pieces made through a series of intense techniques like chasing and repousse, forming, casting, and forging. She collaborates with award-winning sculptor Gene Pearson for her exquisite homeware collection, which includes his iconic masks on her superchic cheese boards, cutting boards and napkin ring holders. She also collaborates with local woodwork creators, sculptors, and seamstresses, allowing designs BiMi to add unique touches to many of the pieces. She creates designs using copper, sterling silver, brass and wood. Her jewellery collection consists of oversized statement-piece necklaces, brass and malachite, brass bar ring, brass and malachite cuff, stacking gold bangles, brass earrings with wood and agate beads, brass ring with brown agate, twisted brass wire ring, brass wire bracelet, brass wire bracelet, twisted wire brass cuffs, silver and white agate drop earrings, silver and silk with Gene Pearson mask. What perfect timing as Bovell has created an entire new collection, upon our request, to be launched just in time for Mother’s Day. This Mother’s Day, treat the most special woman in your life to a specially unique piece of art conceptualised and made by a Jamaican for any stylish woman.
